Configure a Wireless Epson TM-m30ii or TM-M30iii Thermal Printer using the Epson TM Utility App

Getting Started

You will need either an iPad or iPhone with the App Store’s Epson TM Utility App installed, or an Android device with the Google Play Store’s Epson TM Utility App installed, minimum version 3.30.0. If you are not using at least version 3.30.0 of the Epson TM Utility App please update the App before beginning.

To verify which App version you have, open the Epson TM Utility app
Select the blue i button on the top-right side of the screenConfirm you are using version 3.30.0 or higher.
Select Epson TM Utility on the top-left side of the screen to return to the previous screen

Identify the model of the printer, either TM-m30 or TM-m30ii. The model can be found on the label on the back of the printer.mceclip12.png
Required Materials
A pen or paper clip
An Epson TM-m30 or TM-m30ii printer that has been factory reset
An IP address available for use by the printer

NOTE: Every device on a network must have a unique IP address. When in doubt, please contact your Network Management Team with any questions.
 

Factory Reset the Printer

It’s always best to start from a clean slate. Reset the printer to factory defaults to wipe any existing configurations.

Turn the printer upside down
Remove the protective panel

Locate the Network Status Button on the rear underside of the printer. It is located in a small depression next to the cash drawer port.WiFiFactory_Reset_TM-m30_04.png
Turn the printer right side up
Use the tip of a pen or a paperclip to depress and hold the Network Status Button
Turn the printer ON while continuing to hold the Network Status Button

The printer will make a mechanical noise and print a Resetting to Factory Default.
Release the Status Sheet button receipt.

Configure the Printer Using the Epson TM Utility App 

Download and Open the Epson TM Utility app1P.PNG
Scroll down and select Wi-Fi Setup Wizard2P.PNG3P.PNG
Select the correct printer model, either TM-m30 or TM-m30ii.Select Next4P.PNG
If prompted to Allow “TM Utility” to use your Location?, select Allow While Using App5P.PNG
Select Printed
NOTE: If the SimpleAP Start slip did not print, return to the Factory Reset instructions above, then begin again at Step 1

Click Not Printed and follow the steps for Simple AP Start Slip Did Not Print (scroll down this guide)

Wait for the iPad to connect to the Printer and select Join7P.PNG

Toggle OFF Auto
Enter the Network Name (SSID)Select Next

Select WPA2-PSK(TKIP/AES) as the security type
Select Next

After settings have been sent to the printer, select Finish17P.PNG

SimpleAP Start Slip Did Not Print

If the SimpleAP Start Slip did not print, please follow the steps below. You will use the Epson Utility App and the printer’s Feed button to print the SimpleAP Start Slip.

If the Simple AP Start Slip did not print, select Not Printed.mceclip11.png
Turn the printer OFF.

Press and hold down the Feed button and turn the printer ON (Do not release the Feed button until printing starts.)

Select Printed.

Press and hold down the Feed button for 1 second or longer until this receipt has printed.

Select Printed.

Check the number to the left of “Interface Setup” on the print results. The number in the example above is 5.

Press the Feed button the number of times displayed (in this example, 5 times).

Press again and hold down the Feed button. Do not release until printing starts.

Check the number to the left of “Wi-Fi and Ethernet Setup”

Press the Feed button the number of times displayed (in this example, 2 times).

Press again and hold down the Feed button. Do not release the Feed button until printing starts.

Press again and hold the Feed button to print the SimpleAP Start Slip. Do not release the Feed button until printing starts.

Select Printed.

Now the Utility App will connect to the Printer’s WiFi.

Select Join

Continue to Step 12 above.

Tips and Tricks 

  • Be patient and take your time!
  • Watch for typos! IP addresses are an exact science!
  • IMPORTANT! All devices on the same network must have IP addresses within the same IP scheme, and every device must have a unique address. For example, an IP scheme of 172.16.10.___ may be able to accommodate devices with addresses from 172.16.10.2 to 172.16.10.254, but if two devices have the same address, neither device will work.
  • Every network is different. When in doubt, always contact your Network Management Team.
